Living in a family or a community with persons who are different often requires a special level of understanding. Learning about a person with special needs is a first step toward building a relationship of companionship and including that person into the life of the family and community.
The Learning Center contains sub-sections on various disabling conditions in order facilitate understanding of the general characteristics of these conditions. When we know the reasons for particular characteristics or behaviors, we can understand and compensate instead of allowing those characteristics and behaviors to become barriers in our relationship. Please keep in mind that every person is unique and may have a particular characteristic to a greater or lesser extent–or not at all.
